FlightStats Announce Winners in the First Annual Airport On-time Performance Awards

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Portland International Airport (PDX), Oslo Airport (OSL), Itami Airport(ITM), Keahole Airport (KOA), Sola Airport (SVG), Miyazaki Airport(KMI) demonstrates leadership in on-time airport performance.

FlightStats, a flight tracking and airport information service provided by Conducive Technology Corp., is proud to announce the list of airports that are winners in the inaugural FlightStats’ Airport On-time Performance Service (OPS) Awards program. The 2010 OPS awards recognizes airports around the world that delivered the highest percentage of departures from the gate less than 15 minutes after the published scheduled departure time.

The company has been tracking airport and airline on-time performance since 2004 and is uniquely qualified to present these awards as the leading provider of global air travel status information.

“As this is the first year we are presenting on time performance awards to airports, it was interesting to see the 2010 airline and airport winners concentrated in Norway, Japan and the United States.” Added Mr. Kennedy.

Awards were presented for 2010 airport operational excellence in the following categories:

Departure Performance among Major International Airports Winner:

    Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) – Seattle, WA, US

    SEA achieved a 2010 on-time performance record of 85.21%. The average on-time performance was 71.66%% for this category, which includes airports that have a significant number of trans-oceanic or international departures spanning at least three continents with at least 91,250 departures operated annually (250 departures per day).


Departure Performance among Major North American Airports Winner:

    Portland International Airport (PDX) – Portland, US

    PDX achieved a 2010 on-time performance record of 86.02%. The average on-time performance was 75.29% for this category, which includes airports based in North America and operating at least 91,250 annually scheduled departures (250 departures per day).

Departure Performance among Major European Airports Winner:

    Oslo Airport (OSL) – Gardermoen, NO

    OSL achieved a 2010 on-time performance record of 87.77%. The average on-time performance was 69.59% for thiscategory, which includes airports based in Europe and operating at least 36,500 annually scheduled departures (100 departures per day).


Departure Performance among Major Asian Airports Winner:

    Itami Airport (ITM) – Osaka, JP

    ITM achieved a 2010 on-time performance record of 96.35%. The average on-time performance was 73.67% for this category, which includes airports based in Asia and operating at least 36,500 annually scheduled departures (100 departures per day).

Departure Performance among Regional North American Airports Winner:

    Keahole Airport (KOA) – Kona, HI, US

    KOA achieved a 2010 on-time performance record of 91.95%. The average on-time performance was 80.01% for thiscategory, which is comprised of airports based in North America with service concentrated in certain regions, states and provinces in North America and operating at least 18,500 scheduled departures annually (50 departures per day).

Departure Performance among Regional European Airports Winner:

    Sola Airport (SVG) – Stavanger, NO

    SVG achieved a 2010 on-time performance record of 90.61%. The average on-time performance was 78.23% for thiscategory, which is comprised of airports based in Europe with service concentrated in Europe and operating at least 10,000 scheduled departures annually (27 departures per day).

Departure Performance among Regional Asian Airports Winner:

    Miyazaki Airport(KMI) – Miyazaki, JP

    KMI achieved a 2010 on-time performance record of 96.01%. The average on-time performance was 88.40% for thiscategory, which is comprised of airports based in Asia with service concentrated in Asia and operating at least 10,000 scheduled departures annually (27 departures per day).

Additional selection criteria:

  • Airport performance is determined based on on-time departures (departed from the gate less than 15 minutes after the published scheduled departure time).
  • Awards are based solely on performance results for flights departed from the airport.
  • Performance is assessed only for airports where FlightStats can accurately determine the outcome of at least 50% of an airport’s departures.
  • Only scheduled passenger flights are included in the analysis (no charter or unscheduled passenger flights, or cargo flights are considered).
